About the Authors
Audrey Friedman Marcus, wife of Fred Marcus, was the co-founder of A.R.E. Publishing, Inc. As Executive Vice President of the company, she wrote and/or edited over 500 books and materials for teachers and students in Jewish schools, including The Jewish Teachers Handbook, which became a standard in the field. Her series of Jewish holiday books was published by UAHC Press (now URJ Press). She earned a masters degree in Jewish education from the Rhea Hirsch School of Education of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles.
Rena Krasno, who passed away in October 2009, was the author of Strangers Always: A Jewish Family in Wartime Shanghai (Pacific View Press), That Last Glorious Summer 1939: Shanghai, Japan (Old China Hand Press), and seven other books, including five for children. She earned a Baccalaureate in Philosophy at the French Municipal College, Shanghai, and studied two years in the Faculty of Medicine at the Shanghai Jesuit Aurora University. Subsequently, Rena worked as a simultaneous interpreter for international organizations (UNESCO, ILO, FAO, etc.) in Asia and Europe (English, French, German, Russian, and Hebrew).
